PIEZOGRAPHY B&W IMAGE FILE PREPARATION GUIDELINES
Welcome to Piezography, the highest standard in fine-art monochromatic digital printing. Piezography Pro utilizes warm and cool ink shades, and when blended via QuadTone RIP software allow creative control of neutral, warm and cool toned print variations. Glossy prints utilize a gloss “chroma” optimizer which is printed at the same time as the ink.
Please follow the guidelines below to ensure your print files are in proper print-ready form:
Working Spaces & Image Mode
Default working spaces in Photoshop should be set to Adobe RGB (1998) for RGB and Gray Gamma 2.2 for Gray. These can be set in Photoshop under Edit > Color Settings... > Working Spaces. If working in Lightroom, export your image as a 16-bit TIFF with a color space of Adobe RGB (1998), as you cannot export directly to grayscale from Lightroom. After exporting, open your RGB file in Photoshop and convert to grayscale via Image > Mode > Grayscale. Alternatively, if you have a grayscale image in a different working space you can convert it using Edit > Convert to Profile.
Resolution & Image Size
Set your desired print size in Photoshop via Image > Image Size... making sure first that the Resample checkbox is unchecked and then setting your output width and height in inches, keeping an eye on the resolution value. Optimal resolution for printing with QuadToneRIP should be between 300-720 ppi. It is recommended that your image size be at least 1” smaller than the sheet size at the longest dimension to allow for a 1/2” margin. A 1/4” margin is possible with matte prints but due to the application of the gloss optimizer on glossy prints a 1/2” margin is recommended.
Saving Your Print File
Flatten all layers (if present) and save file in TIFF format via File > Save As... making sure the ‘Embed Color Profile: Gray Gamma 2.2’ checkbox is checked. It is good practice to name your print file uniquely to differentiate it from your working/source files and easily referenced in the future (Ex: MyGreatShot_BW_11x14_Print.tif). Saving with LZW or ZIP Image Compression is acceptable for sending large files but is generally not recommended for print files.
File Uploading
Print ready files can be uploaded for printing via WeTransfer to jeffgaydash.studios@gmail.com.
